Changes need to be made in maternity services

This brand new Blog has been created to provide an outlet for our anger and to publicise further the wrong doings of certain staff and the "Management" (term used loosely") of The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
In brief, more details will follow, through staff and procedural negligence, maternity staff at this hospital caused the death of our baby son Charlie Jack Gates. He was our first child, perfectly healthy up until labour and died four days later from massive brain damage. It has been admitted by the Brighton and Sussex Universitys NHS Trust and we have received a paltry financial settlement, (which is irrelevant) BUT CRUCIALLY:

1. We have never received an official apology.
2.The staff in question have not been disciplined and / or investigated in any way. (we have now complained to the GMC and NMC.)
3.The hospital is advertising to encourage people to use their maternity services, possibly because of the publicity surrounding ours and other cases, unbelievably by putting up banners saying "Your baby Your Choice" The irony is not lost on us and we cant believe the insensitivity of this campaign.

We intend to add to this blog and invite others to contribute, A. To try to get Maternity care in this country improved B. To gain a full, unreserved public apologyfrom the faceless uncaring managers of this trust.

Mick & Tracy Gates.

  1. Hi Guys.
Well, Today we have driven past a banner saying ''your baby, your choice, come to ------------ maternity unit''!

for those who have their lost baby(s) to negligence will know of the pain that ripped through us seeing that... and only 5 months after we sued the hospital trust! to 'advertise' when they say they are over run with expectant mothers too.... what's that all about???? they forget to say 'come to us but you may get turned away when you need us most, don't let us treat you in an emergency, we have no idea what we are doing!!!!! ((sorry ranting now))

we have not had an apology from that trust and know one has said to us that changes have been made!
So it is clear that none have been or they would have informed us (surely) anyway you must know how angry we are and that there is no way to vent our grief and concerns...

It is also clear that not much is done once complaints have been made and we seem to be brushed under the carpet with little respect for our baby's.....

I know the register responsible for my baby's injuries and death is still registered and no complaints have been made to the GMC (apart from us) by the hospital management.
Even though it has been proven that negligence on many levels caused our Charlie's death.

It has been brought to our attention just how often negligence happens....

It is disgusting but still nothing is done!

my husband has helped me set up a blog in memory of Charlie, so if any of you would like to add messages or your own 'stories' please feel free....

The more we get the better, as people may just stumble across the site and realise just how often this happens...

This is not to scare expectant parents, but to make them aware and ask questions if they are in ANY doubt about the care they are receiving or have received.

Even if you have taken your baby home healthy/living, please, if you have any Concerns at all MAKE A COMPLAINT, you may just improve someone else's experience and save a child's life...
    lets raise awareness!
